Abstract
The Godley Heads Peninsula is situated on the north-east extremities of Banks Peninsula, some 18 kilometers from Christchurch. Much of the cultural history of the area is still in evidence today, notably the military base at the heads themselves, the cave dwellers on the adjoining coastline extending back to Taylors Mistake, and the surf life-saving club at Taylors Mistake Beach. The Peninsula has long been popular with the people of Christchurch as a place suitable for both summer and winter recreation. This report is a preliminary attempt to analyse the potential
of the Peninsula, to identify the constraints upon its use and
to recommend development that will make maximum use of the
resources without destroying those values that users can most
