    A study of some landscape problems of hydro-electric schemes in New Zealand: with comment upon the landscape development of the Atiamuri power scheme

    Abstract
    The Atiamuri Power Station was commissioned in 1958. Primary restoration work was carried out after construction workers moved out. Many areas that had been acquired for use during the construction phase of scheme were no longer required for operational purposes and have become available for amenity use. Considerable scope exists for further integration of the scheme as a whole with the landscape of the region, and for the development of greater public use of the non-operational areas of the site, the project waters and further river and lake fringe areas. After a study of problems encountered in the landscape of hydro-electric schemes in New Zeaand, conduct a regional landscape survey of the Atiamuri Power Scheme. Proposals are required for the development of the power station site within the context of this regional landscape.
