Abstract
This Research Report is one of a series of three publications which address the issue of possible marketing structures for the horticultural sector. Discussion Paper No. 97 presents a review of some of the literature applicable to this issue and Research Report No. 174 presents information on the development of marketing structures for the horticultural sector. This Research Report (No. 173) presents information on the structure of the competition facing New Zealand fresh fruit exporters to the major New Zealand markets for such products. An understanding of the competition applying to New Zealand fresh fruit is essential to any analysis of the type of marketing structure that might be useful for New Zealand exporters. The ability to identify market opportunities depends upon knowledge of the market situation and the competition within markets. This Research Report contributes substantially to that information base.
