Abstract
In this thesis, the effect of the common method of establishment and some of the newer systems of block transplanting on seedling emergence and on crop growth and maturity in lettuce, fresh market tomatoes and two cucurbit crops (cucumber and pumpkin) were recorded. The prime objective was to find if there were any biological advantages in terms of increased yield or earlier maturity. A secondary objective was to find if there was a higher percentage seedling emergence with the newer systems, thus allowing for the more economic use of seed.
