Abstract
Te Mata Peak is a prominent land mark in Hawkes Bay contrasting with the flat Heretaunga plains. From the summit on a clear day one can see to the Mahia Peninsular and Napier to the North, the Ruahine and Kaimanawa Ranges across the Heretaunga plains to the West, Mt Erin to the South , and the Maraetotara plateau across the Tukituki river valley to the East.
