Abstract
The experiments outlined in this dissertation are designed to investigate: 1. Influence of initial seed moisture and imbibition temperature on the water imbibition behaviour of selected pea lines, 2. Influence of the same two factors on streptomycin uptake in different pea lines, 3. Effect of several seed treatments on the amount of streptomycin translocated in resulting seedlings, 4. Minimum inhibitory concentrations and quantitative bacteriocidal effects of streptomycin to three organisms involved in bacterial blight of peas, and 5. Any phytotoxic effects of the streptomycin seed treatment. Results of the investigations were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the seed treatment suggested by Taylor (1972 c ), and to see whether improvements could be made.
