Abstract
While all grass farming is not suited to all farming areas of New Zealand it has particular significance in South Otago. It is the simplest, most profit making system for the area. Good grass growth rates and good rainfall allows its practice . The breakaway from the traditional practices, of making large quantities of hay and growing considerable areas of winter crops, have allowed the all grass farmer to combat rising costs and declining returns better than in many other areas of New Zealand.
