Abstract
With the horticulture 'boom' of the 80's there has been a marked increase in the amount of the natural plant shelter required for both horticultural and agricultural needs.
The three basic concepts of this thesis are:
(i) Study of shelterplant species used in farming and orchard sectors of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
(ii) Study why plant shelter is necessary in these areas, and what benefits are being obtained. (Section One
(iii) To suggest the best possible management plans, to lead to successful shelterplant establishment and achieve the objectives in (ii) .
