Hieracium: A dissertation submitted in partial fufilment of the Diploma in Farm Management at Lincoln University

Abstract

As part of my course for a Diploma in Farm Management, I have chosen to do a dissertation on hieracium. The project has been put together with information and studies on hieracium and tussock grasslands' degradation over the past 150 years. It covers the history of degradation, since the 1860's, and the factors that caused the degradation. The degradation of tussock grasslands is quite likely to be primarily responsible for the rapid spread of hieracium species over the last 20-30 years. The project also explains how this was likely to happen and the main factors contributing to it such as overgrazing (rabbits, sheep) and burning. The project also covers a survey currently being carried out on Mount Possession with phosphorus and hieracium' s compatibility, with varying amounts and different species.
