Abstract
Air transport is a service industry catering for people
and therefore an analysis of the needs of travellers,
visitors and workers associated with the facility is
paramount in the design process of an airport. This will
extend to specific consideration of the social and
cultural patterns of the country or region to ensure a
reflection of the endemic character in the design of the
facilities.
Integrated into this process are the international safety
requirements of aviation and those of the client in the
project, namely the airlines.
Air transport is not a single market. It consists of a
wide variety of services, quite distinct both in their
nature and their customers. Therefore close and
continuing consultation is necessary with all parties who
make up the team of clients. The involvement of the landscape architect from the early
stages is one of the most important principles in
ensuring that the landscape design is successful.
