Abstract
This study examines the role of three dimensional models in the practice of landscape architecture, and secondly provides information on model construction methods suitable for landscape architectural modelling.
Models can be a valuable aid in the practice of engineering, architecture and landscape architecture; they facilitate the accurate illustration, in three-dimensions, of spaces and structures in a way that no other form of representation can emulate.
Models, a form of communication, are either working models used to develop a design or presentation models used to sell a design. A model may also be used as both a working model and a presentation model.
Landscape architecture, especially in New Zealand, is a relatively young profession and consequently little information is available on model construction techniques. In the section on construction techniques some suitable methods are suggested, for a summary of this see section 5.11.
