Abstract
In the present study, sites have been selected which are representative of the agriculturally important soils from which the main increases in pasture production are likely to come in this area. From the responses of clovers to sulphur, phosphorus, molybdenum and lime and the analyses of the soils, it is intended to show the relative importance of the principal elements limiting clover growth in this region. Further, with particular reference to soil phosphorus, it is intended to examine the possible relationships between clover response, soil phosphorus and stage of soil development and the operation and interactions of the soil forming factors in the selected soils. Thus it is hoped to gain a better appreciation of the factors determining the fertiliser requirements of this region.
