Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol and methanol vase solutions on the vase life of cut standard carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus L. cv. "Candy"). If there was an effect on vase life, it was to be determined if this was due to some effect on ethylene.
Secondary objectives were to determine the effect of ethanol and methanol vase solutions on another flower crop, and to compare the effect of ethanol and methanol with that of silver thiosulphate (STS).
