Hunters need to more actively manage Himalayan tahr

Abstract

New Zealand's wild Himalayan tahr are an unique and highly valued recreational and commercial hunting resource. In their native range it is illegal to hunt tahr in India, and only a handful can be legally hunted each year in Nepal. There are some tiny wild herds in North America. Hence, if one wants to hunt a wild tahr (captive tahr are a different story), for most people the only opportunity is to hunt in New Zealand.
