Abstract
Much publicity has been given to the increasing age of our population. We know that the so called "baby boom" generation will become the "Granny boom". But we still accept much of what is projected for this elderly population as inevitable. "There is a need for everyone to revise expectation of the elderly and keep higher normal values in mind." "Sport and the elderly do not mix easily in the imagination" but studies have proved that exercise can improve and maintain the physical capacities of elderly people. This project aims to encourage the elderly to reach out for good health and well-being. It provides some safe exercises that can be adapted to suit any individual. To those working with the elderly: Volunteers, professionals in the health fields and Community Workers, I have provided some guidelines on the establishment and maintenance of exercise programmes to music and hope that they will consider exercise as the most significant factor in the happiness and well-being of the aged. This project is aimed at the elderly themselves, and provides an exercise programme to music for them to do at home or in a group. A tape accompanies this project to assist you to commence exercising.
