Abstract
Security is required at rock concerts because the propensity for disorder exists. No two rock concerts are the same as the audience, the act playing, and the venue used for the concert all differ.
Security management needs to take these and a myriad of other factors into account so as to produce a plan that can be implemented to minimise disorder. There exists a dearth of material relating to the security
management of rock concerts and to crowd behaviour at rock concerts. Academics have produced a plethora of infonnation on
race riots, social protest, and football hooliganism, but this bears little relevance to the behaviour exhibited at rock concerts. This dissertation has used the knowledge and experience of a number of key people who have had extensive experience in the security
management of rock concerts. This dissertation is intended to provide a valuable resource for anyone faced with the task of organising security for a rock concert.
