Abstract
This chapter reveals how property and planning are shaped by wider economic policy and reflection on what the future directions are likely to be. Wider economic policy is discussed with reference to three major policy tools that are fiscal, monetary, or direct-regulatory in character. We also look at the economics of property and planning policy frameworks more broadly. Followed by an outline of related regulatory approaches in principle. Both people and planet are explored as integral to the future in terms of new directions in the economics of property and planning. A question of perspective is also given when we finally ask more philosophically if there is room for optimism or pessimism in the ‘future value’ when looking at the economics of property and planning.
