Abstract
Landscape architects in practice are always interested in how they are supported by their institute, and how they compare with their colleagues and competitors over a range of factors. National institutes of landscape architecture are similarly interested in other aspects of their membership profile. The NZILA has just commissioned and undertaken its latest survey to gather data on a wide range of aspects to establish a profile of the profession in New Zealand. This article presents some of the key findings of the survey, and identifies areas for the future that will help to guide the development of the profession. Key variables discussed include the relative size of practices, years spent in the profession, types of work undertaken, the size of projects by frequency and value in planning and policy, and in design, CAD and 3D modelling software, and current issues.
