Abstract
Poster presentation summarising research examining community perspectives on cruise tourism. In the Akaroa case study, increasing numbers of tourists in absolute terms does not appear to be the main issue or concern for the community. While cruise tourism has brought some new challenges for the Akaroa community, a significant
proportion of the issues identified are merely the latest manifestation of those which have featured previously in Akaroa during the high summer season. Cruise ship visitors, however, can often exacerbate capacity issues during these times of peak demand.
