Abstract
Field and pot trial studies on the effects of applied nitrogen (N) on nashi (Pyrus pyrifolia Rehder.) growth at Lincoln University and a commercial orchard in Prebbleton, Canterbury, New Zealand (N.Z) were conducted between January 1993 to November 1994. The cultivar 'Hosui' (P. pyrifolia on P. calleryana rootstock) was used in this study. The objectives of the study were to determine the effects of applied N on growth and estimate N levels necessary to maintain nashi tree vigour, growth and yield under N.Z conditions.
