OPINION: We’ve heard a lot about buying local and keeping our businesses afloat through turbulent economic waters. Initiatives and campaigns across New Zealand and around the world are encouraging this behaviour, priming residents for a much-needed surge in post-lockdown spending. We are being told that spending rather than saving is vital over the next six months. Instinctively, a cautious approach to discretionary expenditure seems like the right course of action to many. But it is not.
