Abstract
The Marlborough Sounds are one of those special parts of our country.
Visitors come to enjoy the coastal waters and the spectacular scenery from forest walks above the sinuous coastline.
It is the most cruised part of the country, with tens of thousands each year passing through Queen Charlotte Sound/Tōtaranui along the aquatic SH1 to Picton.
However, the Marlborough District Council no longer considers it as the region's "jewel in the crown", having recently decided to delete that description from the Marlborough Environment Plan.
