Abstract
This thesis examines the role of policy myth in landscape planning by way of two comparative case studies. It analyses the evolution of the open space concept in Marin County, California and of the eco-city concept in Waitakere City, New Zealand. I argue that both concepts display attributes of policy myth. Implications for landscape architects involved in landscape planning are then discussed.
