Abstract
There is a need in New Zealand for greater co-operation and communication between agricultural policy makers and researchers with economic and management interests in agriculture. Whilst co-operation perhaps should take the form of a two way interaction, with policy makers identifying problems and researchers seeking solutions to such problems, it is essential that an effort be made by researchers to communicate more effectively their ideas and findings to members of the community playing decision making roles. The major objective of publishing this Review is to present abstracts of agricultural economics and management research carried out at Lincoln College in a readable and concise manner so that those people involved in decision making can derive some benefit either through the material presented or through direct followups to specific personnel of the College. A secondary objective of the Review is to provide a medium where reviews of major subject areas can be published The Review has two major parts. The first part is made up of an article by John Pryde, which reviews the important area of constraints to increasing production in the New Zealand livestock sector. The second part presents abstracts of research studies which have been completed or are nearing completion in the Agricultural Economics Research Unit (A.E.R.U.) and the two associated Teaching Departments at Lincoln College. Other Departments involved in research with fairly clear economic and management implications have also contributed abstracts; all these contributions are gratefully acknowledged.
