Abstract
Associated with the increasing size of the Horticultural Industry in New Zealand, has been an expansion in the range of herbicides available. With the competitiveness of the International Horticultural trade, production costs must be minimised, with labour a major cost input. Herbicides chosen and used correctly can greatly reduce labour requirements. Incorrect choice or application of a herbicide for a particular crop or environment, can result in large financial losses. Thus an understanding of the factors influencing herbicide efficacy is important to achieve the weed control intended, without damage to the crop or environment.
