Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of reintroducing fernbirds to Yarr’s Flat Wildlife Reserve, Lake Ellesmere. I have investigated necessary habitat changes to make Yarr’s Flat suitable for fernbirds. The needs of fernbirds, including plant species they are associated with in similar habitats and existing Yarr’s Flat vegetation, were studied. The implications of habitat alteration in relation to other birds already using Yarr’s Flat were considered. There was also assessment of the suitability of a peninsula at Lakeside, Lake Ellesmere for fernbird re-establishment.
