Abstract
The study was conducted among the Oxford,Rangiora and Lincoln, Canterbury dairy farming discussion groups . A survey questionnaire of the group and personal interview with the Farmer Consultant/Extension Officers and group leaders/conveners were used to determine the effectiveness of the discussion group as a method of extension . The factors which contribute to a successful discussion group such as compatibility of group members, group size, educational attainment, and an informal atmosphere within the group encouraged the members to stay in the group. The increase in their technical knowledge could increase production.
