Abstract
The development of Fiji agriculture is currently being undertaken along two main pathways. These are, firstly, the adaption of specified 'package' development projects either by Fiji agencies alone or in association with specialists from other countries under aid programmes, and secondly, by development of areas by individuals or groups from development funds. The success of their programmes is important both on the National and the individual level. From the National point of view the development of agricultural resources is essential to earn funds from exports and to attain a greater level of self-sufficiency by reduction of imports of food, such as meat, milk and rice. From the individuals situation, there is a need to promote job opportunities and income to meet both personal and social needs. Consequently both the level and speed of attainment of success is important.
