Abstract
Our objective in this paper is to draw on the increasingly voluminous international
literature on collaborative approaches to watershed, natural resource, and ecosystem
management to critically appraise the potential for successful collaborative governance of water resources in New Zealand, specifically in the Canterbury region of the South Island and specifically for the purpose of engendering sustainable communities.
