Comparative pollen analysis of mānuka and other honeys produced in New Zealand

Abstract

New Zealand mānuka honey is recognized for its highly effective antimicrobial activity due to its hydrogen peroxide and antioxidant contents. This study investigated the pollen content of mānuka honey produced in New Zealand and compared it to clover honey from the same region. Seventy four honey samples were used in this study. After pollen analysis, only ha;f the sample labelled as mānuka met the criteria to be called authentic mānuka while most clover honeys could be claimed as authentic clover.
