Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere State of the Lake 2013

Abstract

Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere is a special place and valued by many people. Many are concerned about the apparent decline in the health, recreational and cultural worth, and biodiversity of the lake in recent decades. A great deal of work is currently underway by many organisations and people to restore and improve the ecosystem health of the lake and its environs. It is important to regularly track the progress being made. This report from Waihora Ellesmere Trust (WET) is an independent publication, bringing together data and recommendations from many agencies and individuals to report on the state of the lake and its environs. Since the first Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere State of the Lake report in 2008, the aim has been to identify a small set of indicators and to report on these regularly. This is the first report using indicators.
