Abstract
The title of this report is purposefully ambiguous and refers to the source of inspiration for a motorcamp study in a region adjacent to a major urban centre (Christchurch). It reflects a orsening transport fuel crisis and excalating costs; it reflects a probable immobility of growing numbers of holiday-makers within their uban region. Within Reach looks at a region which is going to be vitally important to holiday-makers in the near future and provides initial planning submissions in a field of holiday making; a vital field and a cost saving one for vast numbers of New Zealanders. This second point is another inspiration for the title; camping is within reach of all but a very few pockets and is hence very important. Banks Peninsula will become a eveloped region. I hope such development is fully planned with respect for the landscape, the environment and the community. This report anticipates this need in a specific form of recreation planning.
