The power of design in flood-prone communities

Abstract

It is rare for designers to take on an advocacy role at a political level. What indeed should we advocate for, and how should we go about it? In Queensland, architects, landscape architects and urban designers are currently on the frontline in providing innovative design solutions for residents of flood-prone areas. In the case of the recent SEQ Water Futures design charrette, “design thinking” became the vehicle for this advocacy.
