Abstract
Canterbury's growing population, especially its urban population, is putting greater and greater pressure on recreation facilities in the countryside. In order to keep pace with this increasing demand the Department of Lands and Survey along with the national and local authorities is examining existing facilities with a view to planned development. Glentunnel Domain has always attracted outside users but increased numbers in recent years combined with rising maintenance costs have created a situation which is a matter of some concern to the local Domain Board. The Domain Board has presented a general development plan to the Lands and Survey Department. The landscape officer for the Department has subsequently written a brief which is the basis of this research study. This research study supports a set of plans designed to provide the Domain Board and the Lands and Survey Department with guidelines for future development. It is hoped that this development will result in a better domain for both the community of Glentunnel and the public in general.
