Abstract
A concept for comprehensive outdoor recreation planning in New Zealand is outlined. This concept is then applied at a regional level of planning in the Lake Tekapo Region which constitutes part of the Waitaki Catchment of the central part of the South Island of New Zealand.
The case study is confined to an examination of the recreationists in the Study area in the summer of 1975/76 as well as a resource analysis for recreation planning. Conclusions are drawn for development patterns with respect to recreation in the study area and the approach used is critiqued.
