Assessment and measurement of undercoat fibre production in feral goats : Presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Diploma in Field Technology

Abstract

Subjective assessments of undercoat fibre production on feral goats are compared with measurement results from clipped samples. A technique of separating undercoat fibre from outer guand hair by hand is described. The validity of the midside as a standard sampling site is considered. Visual assessment of undercoat fibre production on cashmere type goats is found to be unreliable.
