Abstract
Overall in this dissertation I found that all breeds have advantages and disadvantages with no breed being the best in all aspects of beef production. The farmer must carefully evaluate each breed and then decide on the breed which best suits his farming type and/or management strategy.
As New Zealand has to continually compete with overseas subsidised countries we must continue to improve our beef industry and make it more economic and productive. One way in which to do this is with the continual improvements to both selecting new breeds and culling out the poorest animals within breeds.
