Abstract
People misuse information. Misuse of information can result in inadequate techniques and policies for managing natural resources. Misuse of information occurs when people inaccurately observe information about a resource .and its users, and when people develop management policies and techniques for the resource based on that information. Misuse of information is caused by a person's biased perception of the physical and social world and by the management organisation within which a person works. People can improve their use of information if they review critically what they know about a resource management issue, determine the source of their information, identify possible group processes that affect information use, and review their past involvement with the management of a natural resource.
