Abstract
Floral Art in New Zealand is becoming more than just flower arranging. with specialist societies ever increasing, knowledge of plant material is becoming more widespread. New Zealand floral artists are becoming more skilled, and they are fast
developing a national style which commands attention, both here and overseas.
Our indigenous plants with their bold form and arresting shapes and textures, are being rediscovered both for inside the home, and outside in the garden or patio.
Many of our most beautiful plants have been grown only by enthusiastic collectors. They are, in fact, appreciated much more overseas than by the average New Zealander, who is inclined to generally overlook our native flora.
In the following pages, plant material which can be applied in the modern concept of New Zealand floral art, will be discussed and illustrated.
Some specific information of where these plants may be found growing naturally, together with some notes on their cultivation will also be given.
