Abstract
In New Zealand most government departments and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet have semi independent Chief Science Advisors. These scientists are typically seconded from senior positions at NZ universities. In this case I report on just over 2 years of experience working as CSA for the Department of Conservation in Welllington - I outline my successes, failures and frustrations but mostly the excitement of the job from research and policy perspectives.
