New Zealand livestock sector model : 1986 version

Abstract

This report describes an updated version of an econometric model of the New Zealand pastoral livestock sector which has evolved over a number of years. Taking earlier work by Laing and Zwart as a starting point, their model is re-estimated using extra data now available. The pastoral sector has traditionally been of major importance in the New Zealand economy. As a background to the model specification, the recent history and current state of the pastoral sector is briefly reviewed and key factors for model specification are identified.
