Race-day injuries reported by veterinarians in stewards' reports for the 2022 harness racing season

Abstract

Racehorse injuries are a primary concern for horse welfare and public perception of the racing industries. Most research globally has focussed on Thoroughbreds, particularly in terms of musculoskeletal injuries (MSI). Less is known about the incidence of injuries occurring in Standardbred horses. The aim of this study was to quantify the incidence of veterinary reported injuries on race-days in the 2022 harness racing season.
