Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is to outline the effects of eating disorders on an individual sufferers leisure behaviour and leisure life style. First, a description of the physical, emotional and behavioural characteristics of two significant eating diseases, anorexia nervosa and bulimia are illustrated. Next, the relationship between eating disorders, motivation and leisure is discussed based on Maslows hierarchy of needs satisfaction. Finally a paradigm for leisure counseling as a 'step along the way' of the treatment process, has been developed.
