Abstract
Goal:
To assess the visual impact of drawdown on the Upper Waitaki Basin lakes.
Objectives:
To examine and describe the historical perspective of land use and development within the basin as a background to drawdown problems.
To examine and describe the landscape characteristics of the upper Waitaki Basin as a criteria for assessment of change
To describe drawdown in the context of the upper Waitaki Valley Basin and out line the problems associated with this process
To evolve a methodology for evaluating visual impact
To assess the landscape implications of drawdown and to suggest possible solutions to problems
To evaluate past methods of lakeshore treatment
