Abstract
The Lunns Rd Area in Upper Riccarton, Christchurch, was chosen for the study. This site comprises 36 hectares of industrial zoned land in Paparua County. Approximately half of the 36 ha has been developed for industry, the remaining land is in agricultural use. The site offered the opportunity to coordinate a number of different industries, ranging from warehousing to heavy engineering. None of the industries are very large, but they are typical of New Zealand Manufacturing Industries in a suburban location. The objectives of the brief were: I. A survey of existing site conditions and user requirements II. A proposal for the accommodation of existing areas on the site, taking into account the possibility of future industrial development III. Analysis of the existing Paparua County District Scheme Ordinances to determine their effectiveness in developing and maintaining landscape quality; the suggestion of changes to these ordinances to improve their effectiveness, if this seems necessary IV. Preparation of guidelines which could assist industries within the county to implement landscape requirements and achieve landscape quality.
