Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the issues that surround the participation of students with physical disabilities in secondary school outdoor education programmes. Data received from a questionnaire sent to forty-one selected schools was combined with data from eleven interviews, one observation and a video review. The results indicate that students with physical disabilities are well catered for in outdoor education programmes. There is, however, room for improvement in staffing and awareness of disability issues. The benefits of being involved in risk activities are just as great for these students as they are for others. Recommendations are provided for improving the participation of students with physical disabilities in outdoor education programmes.
