Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the biosecurity landscape (through a tourism lens) and the tourism landscape (as pertaining to biosecurity risk), describes key facets of tourism-biosecurity risk, and proposes a research agenda to generate understanding of the tourism-biosecurity risk interface. The application of a tourism lens to understand biosecurity risk brings a number of social science research perspectives, which – along with biophysical science research – can inform biosecurity mitigation and management. The work was undertaken within the pathway risk management theme of the Better Border Biosecurity (B3) research programme. B3¹ is a multi-partner, cooperative science collaboration that researches ways to reduce the entry and establishment of new plant pests and diseases in Aotearoa New Zealand.
