Abstract
This paper is in three sections. The first section examines the evolution of New Zealander's attitudes to the wild animal resource in New Zealand and the implications to recreational hunting in New Zealand. Section Two examines economic characteristics of recreational hunting and some economic "tools" for evaluating benefits from recreation. Section Three deals with a proposal that the Fallow Herd in North Westland be investigated as a Recreational Hunting Area (RHA.)
