Abstract
Since time began the burial cremation or embalming of the dead has held great significance to the living. Until the last decade or so burial has been the most common method of removing a body, for obvious health reasons. In the past thirty years there has been increasing use made of cremation which is now at a stage where over 50% of bodies are disposed of by this method if this service is available. We are now at a stage in this country where many of our old cemeteries are becoming full. With gradual changes in the social conditions and public thought we must now design our new cemeteries as progressively as the public will allow. It must be remembered, that what is considered modern or progressively design today, will in a few years be out of date. Therefore the further ahead we can design now, the longer it will take to become out-dated.
