Abstract

The avocado, Persea americana Mill (P.gratissma Gaertn), is a member of the Lauraceae family and is the only species noted for its large edible fruits, although others along with the avocado are noted for their ornamental beauty. These include Laurus nobilis Mediterranean Laurel, Umbellularia californica Nutt Californian Bay Tree, Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume, the cinnamon tree, and others.
